Five stud wheels with the brake disc visible just behind the wheel means it's likely Granada based, as is ours.

Does the Sierra based Sumo support an SBC? I thought that combo was a bit marginal?

Yep, no problem, lots have Chevys or Ford small blocks - Mark Evans used a Chevy on the Car is Born.

There is an hp limit mentioned in the build manual, mainly due to the standard sierra diff from the 2l, but can be uprated to the sierra from the V6 sapphires or cosworth and then its fairly bullet proof.

The later chassis is worth having with the extra triangulation, as that enhances everything.

A few Sumos had Jag donors, but not many, and used full width axles, so 'dish' on rear wheel quite shallow on those cars.

 So factor in a new engine required as the engine failed. So rebuild or engine right off. £5k
I think they went with the jag running gear for the Chevy option and that was pushing in on the chassis.
Sumo's mainly stay with Rover engine option which would be lighter upfront than an all iron Chevy.

A project requiring some work for someone with the means and £5k on top of the final hammer price. Body work looks good but needs visual inspections. Photos can be very deceptive.

My take on this, although not a Sumo owner myself was from a good friend of mine , he
had just a RV 8 with a fairly low range GT Sierra axle .
He didn't mind the high revs and wasn't much to get near to him up to the Ton, that was it .
What he did mention was that you should be ok with the diff but he did talk about possibly
having the axle mounts strengthened for a sbc .
The other thing was due to the 4:1 axle would be best to go for a longer legged diff to get
the best results ?

To have had a recent engine swap/refurb and then go bang rather quickly would suggest a poor/failed rebuild, or maybe just bad luck I guess.....

History would suggest it's not been hugely well maintained, but could be a bit of a project to get up and running again?
