5K for headers? Wow!
I had Hayward & Scott make a full stainless crossover system for my GT40 last year and that was "only" 3K!

The noise test is based on the max engine power speed that you declare on the IVA application.

Quote from: Kev Davies UKCC Membership on Nov 21, 2022, 10:16 AMIt's not the rev limit it's max power speed.
Agreed you have some flexibility in what speed you declare on the paperwork but they're not stupid.
They also usually connect their own tacho to the engine during the test.

Where do they get the max power information from though?  Stock for a 351 is 5500rpm area limitations.
No way I'll be providing dyno graphs etc, would be digging my  own grave. I have not heard of people doing so either.
Naturally they aren't stupid but can definitely have some wiggle room etc.
Tacho isn't an issue as it will read correct, would not be changing the readout.  The rev limit is software set in the Ecu.

Quote from: GTR_Garner on Nov 18, 2022, 07:49 PMYes that is correct, but how do they know my Rev limit?
You tell them what it is and my Ecu will allow me to set whatever I like as a limiter.
For example my Rev limit it 7500 - I can set to 6000 etc.  i know people who go through Iva setting their limits at 5500 😂

Quote from: JON1D on Nov 18, 2022, 12:33 PMHi,

With Ford small block high ported heads ( Trick Flow?) the ports would not match a standard Windsor port/pattern. Have you got a header gasket port matched? I see you having a problem trying to buy off the shelf headers to port match as the heads are reworked to open up the upper chamber. You will need to go down custom route for port matching and have a custom made headers manufactured.
Regarding side pipes speak to Dave Brooks or Absolute Horse Power ( Anthony ). They might be able to supply a very nice set in stainless which you can then ceramic coat. No issues with rusting from the inside out is how exhausts rust out. They also will be able to advise on making them IVA compliant at the time.

Indeed, Trick Flow 225cc high ports, custom CNC ported w/lightweight valve train.
Yup manifolds I have no choice but to be custom, side pipes as you say I can be more open with.
I'll look them up and see what they have.  Stainless is preferable for longevity reasons naturally.
Thanks

they have loads of options for Cobra Headers side pipes etc.
What kit are you building?
You can't limit the revs for IVA you have to noise test at a prescribed engine speed, from memory it's 2/3  of your max power speed.

Thanks Aaron,

Interesting to hear the quotes you had too.  I spoke to a friend (waltonmotorsport) and he quoted me £4K + vat for a full stainless system.  Which shocked me I have to admit.
£5k for just a pair of manifolds is daylight robbery, what are they made out of? Unobtanium?  ;D

AK won't have the tooling for my manifold, noone will unfortunately.

I was originally going to use Tony Law Exhausts for my GT40 so I spoke to them again yesterday and they quoted £1400 + vat for it all - in mild steel.  1 7/8" primaries, into 4-1 collector into side pipe silencer and optional IVA silencer.  Which is fantastic pricing!  Had a look at their work and it seems very good.  Mild steel works fine for me as will be coating anyway - which ruins the look of costly stainless in my opinion haha.

I'd say - if your manufacturer has jigs for headers for your chosen engine, do that..

If, like me, your manufacturer doesn't then you'll want to be sitting down when you get a quote - the quotes I got came out to around £5000. That's just for a pair of headers, by the way; sidepipes would be on top of that. They'll also need your car, so plan for someone close!

Hayward & Scott if you're south/Essex way
Joe @ BTB Exhausts if you're east mids
Ollie @ Olliminium if you're more central mids (Bicester Village)

Custom Chrome (Nuneaton) used to be much more reasonable but when I spoke to them they are essentially retired and only supplying components now, they aren't interested in building systems.

Those are the ones I'd know and trust, anyway.

You'll need a silencer to get through IVA, and a well packed one at that, possibly with additional baffles.

Hi guys,

Who are your go to exhaust builders and what did it cost you?
Also with the side pipes how big a silencer do you have an how did it go come IVA time? I want to get away with as small a silencer as possible.  I can limit my revs through Ecu come IVA time etc.

I'm going to need a custom manifold as I'm running a 9.2" deck small block Ford with high port heads.  Can be mild steel to save against stainless as I'm going to ceramic coat it all black.

This is the kind of style side pipes I was thinking - a nicely designed collector, slim line silencer (if I have to fit one at all) and a large tip.  Won't let me upload the other side pipe I liked as image too big.
