Hi 427SCR

Thanks for the reply.

I have now fitted the oil cooler and at present it appears to be working fine, no leeks and the oil pressure is fine and as it was before the oil cooler was fitted. The thermostat (92 degree) on the sandwich plate also appears to be working fine and only opening when it needs to. When it does open there are still no leaks and the oil pressure is fine.

I will keep you updated if anything changes.

Regards

More trouble than they are worth.

Deleted mine after it would not stop leaking and dropped my oil pressure.

Quote from: RobP on Aug 30, 2022, 07:15 PMThe reason I want to fit one is because on my way to Silverstone on Friday and on the way home the oil temperature gauge was reading about 100 degrees. The water was about 90ish.

Both those temps are just about perfect.

Quote from: RobP on Aug 30, 2022, 07:15 PMI just want to add additional cooling just in case.

You don't need one (except for aesthetics).

Hi Rob,

Whatever size you opt for remember to mount it using suitable AV mounts or it might fracture over time.  Don't ask me why I know.

Cheers

Hi Rob,
I didn't fit one on my SBC for about 5 years but when I did, I felt it was able to remove some more excess heat when the stat kicked in. I'm actually in the process of asking whether they even need a fan as well?
Someone is rebuilding my engine and has mentioned oil rad fans!
Personally I would have a rad to help with cooling on those hot runs or days, I'm not sure what size mine is, approx 100 mm high by 250 wide, plus stat.
I have have had over heats due to fan belt breaking and rad fan fuse blowing, plus stuck in traffic on a heatwave!
Plus, if the stat opens and the rad gets hot each trip, that means it wanted to get rid of some heat, or the stat would have stayed shut!

Correct me if i'm wrong please. 100 degrees is fairly acceptable for an oil temp i believe. Remember it needs to get hot enough to burn off the impurities, so 100 degrees wouldn't scare me to much.

Hi Kev

Thanks for the reply.

I was going to fit one with a 92 degree thermostat.

The reason I want to fit one is because on my way to Silverstone on Friday and on the way home the oil temperature gauge was reading about 100 degrees. The water was about 90ish. I just want to add additional cooling just in case.

To be honest Rob, I'd be very surprised if you really need one, unless you're doing track days etc.
Many folks fit one for looks but don't actually plumb it in.
If you really want one plumbed make sure you fit a thermostatic valve in the take off.

Hi All

I am looking to fit an oil cooler and wanted to know what size most people fit e.g. a 10 or 13 row cooler.

Any advice much appreciated.

Many thanks
