Bob, thanks for this! I am mid way though striping it and now need to figure out how to get the final innards (don't know the correct name 🤣) out. I have the smaller gears out, just the crown ring and casing. Not sure if the bearings are stuck in there housing tight or if there is something locking it in. Hoping this content will help me figure it all out.

That's disappointing, the pics didn't come up in the same order as in my folder , I'm afraid you'll have to sort them out, the service manual has page numbers all prefix H.

Anyone know how to cure this for the future?

Kyle,
Here are the pics from the service manual, I've included the first couple of pages of the rear end section then skipped some pages up to the description of dismantling the diff.
If the pics come up in the right order then the last two pics are from the parts manual, there's the exploded drawing on the first page then the parts list on the second, the exploded drawing is plate 19 so the parts list shows 19-1, 19-2 etc, the Jaguar part number is the one on the left in the list, often BD*****. This is my first time posting pics, fingers crossed.

Good luck

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your response and help, if I could get copy/image of the exploded diagram that would be great.

I managed to find the service manual for the s3 online for download for free which has been REALLY helpful, the rest of sites wanted silly money for it! https://jagupgrades.yourwebsitespace.com/order

I have the factory parts manual for the series 1 E Type Jaguar, it has exploded diagrams with part numbers, yours is probably newer than this but my experience from having a few is that they are all more or less the same. I also have the factory service manual for series 1 and 2, this is more text based with instructions for strip and rebuild. I can take some pics of the relevant pages if you think it might help, alternatively if you are close you can come round for a look. I'm in Chester.

Hi All,

Rather than start another thread, I thought id start here. I need to replace all the bearings in my diff as they are making a lot of noise. I am planning to take my time and do it myself, my thinking being that if its rebuilt with the same size shims etc it should all be fine after! Does anyone have any manuals etc that could help me with this? I have a Jaguar Hayes manual but it has very limited info in it!

Thanks

Kyle

I found rebuilding the caged jag rear end (from my jag) was straightforward enough with the whole thing on the bench, the biggest problem I had was flipping it for access as it was going together and then getting it off the bench once it was in one very heavy piece. Rebuilding the same rear end in my Cobra was another story, there was no cage as the diff mounts and pivot points were all part of the cars chassis so pre assembly before dragging it under the car was limited. I had extreme difficulty supporting one piece while trying to line up another and simultaneously holding several shims/seals in place. I don't want to put you off, the job isn't complicated but the location makes it difficult. Have a couple of jacks, axle stands, blocks of wood, levers and Elastoplast ready. I have several small odds and ends left over from both builds which you are welcome to so give me a shout before you start buying parts.

A different refurb, input output is straightforward. You just need to take your time.

Another one for Ben at Simply Performance. Some of the kit manufacturers use them for rolling chassis. They know there stuff and you will save a lot of head ack. The assembly of the parts for the rear end is in the scope of home builders but the internal diff and seals needs some knowledge with bearing replacement. Leave it to a specialist.

You can fit wishbones bearings and brakes which are straight forward. Check run out and centralising the disc's.
You can do a visual inspection of the diff . Check crown and pinion wear mesh and back lash. If LSD diff it should be de-rated and checked.

Quote from: Pete Neale on Jan 09, 2024, 04:59 PMHi Folks,

Does anyone have any experience of refurbishing a Jaguar Rear End ?

Part of me is considering the job myself, replacing wishbone bearings etc, but I also have leaky diff seals which makes me think about a "diff refurbishment".

If I am getting the diff out then perhaps it would make sense to take the whole assembly out and getting a specialist to refurb the whole lot (diff, Shafts, brakes wishbone seals / bearings)?
Including alignment / shims ?
Then leaving me with the job of putting the assembly back in . . .
Thoughts Please :-)

For a diff refurb I was given a name "Russel Ram?" does anyone have any contact details, or other suggested specialists (I am based just south of Birmingham), or any other Jag / cobra specialists who could assist.

Your feedback and advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks,   Pete

Not sure if Russ is still doing Diff rebuilds but ask him, he is the club treasurer and contact details on the club website.
