Since my last post, I've had a very informative chat with AJS Engineering Services , who told me that as my Diff is from a 1986 3.6 XJS, it will have modern rubber seals .
 
He also advised me not to use Penrite oil, but stick with what jaguar recommend , which is Castrol Transmax 85W/90 LSD mineral oil , which has includes the additives ,which is what some of the guys are using .

Last time I replaced it was about 1.75 Ltrs (with some spillage) so 2 x 1 Ltrs will be fine.

The drain plug is magnetic so you can look to see if any metal is present. I found the filler was also magnetic.

The confusion is 2.75 imperial pints which is 1.6 Ltrs.

It stinks to hell and you never get rid of the smell. So wear long gloves and cardboard down. I was going to use an electric pump last time to fill up as its at a difficult angle. I would definitely use a pump to fill next time I did one. A pump I have used in the past for various fluids is an Aldi 12v electric pump. I does oils and petrol.

Thanks guys, what ever i use needs to be mineral in case my diff still has the old leather seals( unlikely as it was supposed to be reconditioned by original owner) , which  synthetic will wreck.

Anyone know how much oil the Salisbury LSD holds, i have trawled the web and got two answers so far, 1.5 and 2.4 Ltrs

There were so many posts by Russel on the old forum about this, it was my go-to reference.. sadly none are cached anywhere that I can find. Especially annoying when one of them is still in my browser history! 

I seem to recall Russel recommending Castrol Limited Slip, either 75W90 or 75W140.. but what I find for sale now doesn't line up with my memory (https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-970-limited-slip-diff.aspx?manufacturer=68). Hopefully someone with a working memory will be along shortly

I want to replace the oil in my XJS Salisbury LSD diff on my AK. Has anyone got any recommendations on what type of oil I should use, bearing in mind it's an LSD and will need to contain "Extreme pressure additives" and "Friction modifiers".

I was thinking of using Penrite 80W/90 Mineral gear oil, anyone used this oil?

So that I buy enough, can anyone tell me how much oil it takes?
