Real Steal do reasonable machine work. Get seasoned block in U.k. then a SCAT 408 stroker kit.
You can decide on ali heads EFI or carb and get them to do the short block build with the parts or total build.

You definitely don't want a late block and all the emission hassle.

You could ask Blue Print what they have built and give you the date codes of the blocks. If its to much work for them source your own block.

I'm looking at buying the Blueprint Engines Ford Windsor 408 stroker.
They say it uses a "seasoned block", but as their source of blocks is wide and varied, they can't guarantee what year the block will actually be.
Its an £8k gamble to buy this engine in the hope I'll get it through IVA.
Plan B is to source an older engine either in USA or UK and getting a UK builder to rebuild and stroke it out.

Why not get Real Steal to get you a block, do all the machining work you want and then you just bolt all the goodies together?

Yep have recently passed my IVA with a Chevy 383.  The block I bought is a 1973 block which I got real steel to do an engine age certificate for.

With that the IVA emissions test was a visual test only. So easy pass with no cats needed and a badly running engine ( was miss firing badly for the test  )

Perfectly achievable for IVA with the correct documentation.

An engine age verification must be provided from an "approved/recognised" source.

Mine was a 2014 IVA and i got my certification through my engine supplier at the time which was BAE, although it wasn't Ian from BAE who built mine.

If i recall correctly there where only about 5 authorised approvers in the UK back in 2014 and i know that two have ceased trading since. The other few would only approve engines they had built or supplied themselves because of people taking the piss.

Get a list of who is currently allowed to approve and work from there. Someone will verify i'm sure for a small charge and a possible visit, unless you have your engine from one of the listed people's already. In which case get your paperwork in order ready for your test.

The key for the emissions is the block date.
An early pre 1st Aug 1975 = Visual smoke

Next date block is pre 1st Aug 1986 - CO<= 4.5% hc<=1200ppm

Next date Block is pre 31st July 1992- CO<= 3.5% hc<=1200ppm

Then you get in requiring cats which you want to avoid.

You need to prove the age of your block with engineer report and date information. Matching your date code.

Both my blocks at pre 75 so are visual smoke test. One was Iva 2021. It states this also on the V5C so when you go for your first MOT 3 years you can show this to the tester centre.

Hi,

As the title suggests, this is about emissions on the IVA test. 
Has anyone passed the test with an old school small block with carburettor or Holley Sniper/Fitech?
I'm wanting to use a Ford small block in my build instead of an LS3.
