Quote from: longtimebuild on Mar 17, 2023, 10:58 AMPassed my IVA test yesterday (fanfare) only took 20 years from ordering my Dax kit !!!

The team at Kidderminster DVSA could not have been more helpful on both occasions and calmed my nerves , i think they look forward to a vehicle other than an import Prius to examin!.

Few more forms to sort out with DVLA -age related plate etc and ready for the summer.
I used the British car auctions web site that is associated with the dvla for a personalised plate
that has a 1966 Suffix  .
The plate was engineered by myself as the reg number had never been issued back in 66 .
The procedure was that I needed to look out when the number was listed for auction then bid for it .
This was successfull on the second attempt as this was done with with a previous 65 plate without
success, I was outbid by GD cobra owner !
The original reg number was an 1975 N plate that I keep and my personal plate is transferable .
Cannot fault the dvla services on this as I could not do the transfer on line and needed to send my
orriginal log book in, everyone that I had spoken to was helpful and seemed to know our stuff .
May be some useful info for you ,
Regards,
Chris.

As said previously.... Guaranteed second time pass.

Well done, great feeling isn't it. Fingers crossed for a quick turnaround from our friendly DVLA wombles.

Drive safe!!

The list is pretty easy to tick off ( fingers crossed) On emissions my engine block is a 91 and i have a certificate from Peter Knight Racing verifying that. Using a local garage the week before the emissions passed well inside the limits , however my exhaust was 104 DB way too loud ! i put more acoustic wadding into my side pipes and the DB dropped accordingly to 99.
However what i didnt realise was the excess wadding then altered my emissions!!

The day after my IVA i removed some Excess wadding and re-tested my emissions at the local garage ,passing easily this time.
Also remember that exhaust sound tests should always be done in the open ( middle of an empty carpark ) as the microphone picks up the sound waves bouncing off garage walls, buildings etc and increases the DB number.
i live and learn.

Tick list looks o.k. . Your emissions test ? Did it just fail and was it proof of age of the engine ?
Worth taking it to a local garage old school who does MOT tests if it just needs adjustments.

I failed my IVA on the 17th February on the following points.

1.Emissions too high.
2.VIN stamped in wrong place.
3.Handbrake not having reserve travel and locking position.
4.Bonnet catches facing wrong way .
5.Plug leads close to exhaust manifold.

The engineer conducting my test was  very helpful and gave me time to correct any item while i was there, i was obviously in the proverbial with my emissions so loaded my car back onto the trailer.

re-test in a few weeks time.
