Cork and Rubber Oil Pan Gasket fitting and sealing advice needed

Thanks Tony, I am certainly concerned re the Cork ones but unfortunately the manufacture states this is the only one which will work. Do you know the rubber one that would work as currently have the Fel Pro one that does not?

As I said, there are two different one-piece gaskets for the oil pan you probably need the other one to the one you bought. Search on Summit Racing and you'll hopefully see. I know they changed the design of the sump, maybe when they went from a two piece rear seal to the one piece?

I could never get the cork ones to seal adequately so I always used the one piece ones, there are two types though including one that leaves a large gap around the half curves......

I have Chevy 383 Stroker, 1972 block fitted with a Canton Racing Product #15-250 oil pan / sump. The Oil Pan / Sump gasket began to leak and so initially replaced with a one piece Rubber Fel Pro one, however found there was still a gap around the 1/2 circle ends and on speaking to relevant people identified the correct gasket was 88 - 102 gasket which is four pieced  has cork sides and rubber 1/2 circles. Canton racing suggest when fitting to:

(1) Spread a thin bead of RTV Silicone sealant along the oil pan rails, then leave it to rest overnight

(2) Then carefully spread a thin bead of RTC Silicone Sealant along the gasket where it meets the engine block then fit oil pan to engine. Leave overnight before filling with oil

My questions are:
(1) By putting the sealant along all the surfaces and leaving it overnight to dry would this not dry out completely?

(2) Should I really put sealant on a cork gasket?

(3) Any one give any advice how bets to fit these gaskets cork and rubber to do this?
