I have always know it as hit them to the rear to tighten.
If not you have your hubs on the wrong side!

That's interesting. I tend to remember that to loosen, one hits a top ear towards the front of the car. I'd like to justify that as the only time it might be hard to know the direction, is when you need to loosen. If it is loose, then it's easy to try it to see which way it tightens. So I'd like to justify it, but honestly, I didn't think about it until now!

Quote from: KevinW on Nov 09, 2023, 08:29 AMOnce I've added the lockwire, I mark the spinner and wheel centre near the lockwire with a pencil line so I can check if there has been any movement.

I did drill a hole for lockwire in one ear of each of my 4 spinners but never bothered to lockwire any of them. Theory says they should self tighten, and from my experience getting them loose seems to take more effort than tightening. So call me brave, or maybe just stupid.....

Oh... I almost forgot. One time (quite a few years ago) I tied the theory out and only snugged one spinner up. I then went for a short drive and then re-checked that spinner. It was now on quite tight. Wasn't much of a test as I didn't drive very far or very hard... yep, so call me Nervous Nelly.....  or maybe Aunt Martha....

I learned a valuable lesson similar with one of my Rolls Royce... one side of the vehicle is lefty loosy wheel nuts and the other side righty loosy!!  :o

I stripped two before i figured it out.... Oh the shame!!  ;D

Every so often (on one of the various Cobra sites) I see questions about spinner removal. Either they wern't aware of the left-hand hubs or got the sides mixed up. Here's a little animation to demonstrate how to loosen a spinner depending on which side of the car you are on.

I hope I got this right!

Note: ability to levitate not required.
