Fuel Tank Earthing

Regarding earthing the fuel filler.....an autoelectrician strongly recommended it and I have run an earth from the screw fixings of the filler to the nearest roll bar leg (fixed with a jubilee clip). The roll bar is of course fixed to the chassis so that should work.

Don't know what happened there,
but would just add that you may not need to earth the fuel filler neck, although won't be a bad idea,
if in doubt "earth it out" and that goes for domestic stuff like emersion heaters etc etc, atlthough much
heavier gauge wire would be needed .

I don't have anywhere at present I can get a good earthing connection to on the tank hence the option to clear away some of the paint at the bolts. Thinking back to the fuel sender again, there is a cork gasket but I assume the screws/bolts fixing it to the tank must connect into the tank and provide an earth anyway? I've read that I should also earth the aluminium fuel filler so will need to link this in with any additional earthing I add.

Hi ,
I do not have to conform with IVA / SVA for my early SR cobra but what I have done is to fix a dedicated
Earth under one of the tank straps that secures the aluminium fuel tank, the earth wire is also connected
to the fuel sender unit with the wire then earthing at the fuel pump in my case.
The earth could be connected to any suitable earthing point, just make sure your getting a good conection.

Evening all.

IVA states the fuel tank has to be earthed to prevent static build up. Just wondering how people have achieved this? In the Sumo it is bolted to the chassis which would normally act as earth but i assume the fact the tank is painted this insulates it? I also assume that you can't run and earth from the float sender fixing bolts as this is isolated from the tank with a cork gasket? (Sender has its own earth cable so this would also be pointless?).

I thought about grinding off some of the tank coating where they are bolted to the chassis?

Sorry, a lot of assumptions there which I'm normally wrong on!

Any thoughts/suggestions?
