Hi All,

I thought I'd share the answers to VIN questions above as I thought it might benefit other builders.

I've spoken Grumbleweed who has been brilliant explaining what he did with  his car for the IVA.  I also had a reply back from Nicola at Pilgrim which confirms everything.

These are the excerpts from the email

"You will be expected to present your vehicle for the IVA test with the kit manufacturer's VIN Plate fitted. Our VIN Plate only has a place to stamp the 17-digit VIN Number on it.

Note 2 on page 2 of section 18 of the IVA Testers manual states these weights do not have to be displayed.  This should not be an issue during the IVA test."

"The VIN Number needs to be stamped on the right-hand chassis leg in front of the Lower wishbone"

Hi all,

I'm getting towards the end of my 11 year Pilgrim Sumo build and I'm trying to get to grips with the IVA and registration process.

I've received my VIN number from the DVSA and need to stamp up the VIN plate and chassis ready for the test.

I just wanted to see what other Pilgrim owners had done so I don't make a silly mistake.

1.) On the VIN plate I have to stamp the maximum laden weight, the maximum train weight and the maximum front/ rear axle laden weights.

Initially thought I was going to have to calculate it but then found some design weights in the back of the Pilgrim construction manual.

Are these the figures that others have used on their VIN plates and paperwork?

2.) Where have others stamped the VIN number on their chassis?

The IVA manual says it has to be on the right hand side and clearly visible. The IVA 1C form says to detail where the VIN is on the vehicle and they give the example front chassis leg left.

I was thinking of the right chassis leg but then it's not easily visible without popping a wheel off and there no where really suitable to stamp it under the bonnet that I can see.

I see Grumbleweed has recently passed the IVA with a Pilgrim Sumo on YouTube and I was wondering what he had done.

Many thanks to all in advance
