Fuel tank sender unit - replacing the gasket

Hi Don, thank you and I don't know yet.... I have cleaned up the area around the sender and concluded the seating could be from a vent valve that is placed just above.  Next step is to fill the tank and then take a careful look now the area around both is clean.

Maybe you've found out by now, but when I fitted a new sender unit to my tank, I used rivnuts in the tank, perhaps that's what you have. Or could they be self tappers?

Hi all, I need to replace the gasket and re-seal the fuel tank sender unit which is mounted high on the side of my tank.  I can't recall the type but think it is one of the universal type that is held in place with 6 small allen key type bolts that are approx 6 cm across the hole centers.

My question:   It is soooooo long since I last installed this that I can't recall how the fitting that the 6 allen bolts screw into is retained inside the fuel tank.... I don't want to undo the 6 bolts and then hear a clunk as some internal part falls off into the bowels of the tank.

Any tips/advice appreciated.   Many thanks.
