There's very little to see in the boot - you would need to lift the car and view from underneath.  If you google Dax cobra chassis you should find some useful photos.

Are you able to show any photos of the inner most leg mounts at all? Not sure if it's visible through the boot?

Thanks!
When I looked today, I could only assume it needs a hole cutting in the fibreglass chassis in the boot to get access to (hopefully) a cross-member underneath. I didn't manage to get a proper look though, but it did look like the innermost legs of each roll hoop would beed to be set further back towards the boot due to the shape of the fiberglass tub...
I'll be able to explain myself better later this week with photos

What year was the mk3 chassis?

So the car I'm looking at is a Dax Tojeiro, registered around 2000. Based on that, I have to assume it's the IRS chassis and not de-dion...

Not sure if that means anything with regards to the hoop configuration tho?

I know it means inboard jag brakes..

I'd say the devil is in the detail, on any car you're interested in as a minimum you need to check out what the current status is and then see if there is any additional attachment points.
I don't think double bars were too popular back then so possibly not thought of.  I had my chassis jigged to take a double hoop or single hoop with/without fowrard brace.  Never got around to fitting anyghing!  Yet.

My SR has Jag IRS with inboard discs and would thing the Dax would be the same,
can't see any issues with the roll over bar on either cob .
Both were designed for the Jag set up with single, double or twin .

Also have a look on the Southern Roadcraft section as there was input from other members with
regards to this subject, some have managed to do this work with a bolt in version .
No problem with any of the suggestions just a bit bloody awkward, not expensive but time and
patience is of the essence .

Quote from: Chris on Jan 25, 2024, 08:59 AMThe double width roll over bar that I have on my late nineties Southern roadcraft is a proper structural
setup .
At the time I had the option of having a centre bracket welded in for a few extra quid if I was going to
fit either a single or twin loop system, stupidly I didn't go with this option !
The set up that I have is perfectly adequate but the centre bracketry would have given me a much
easier choice for change if so desired, you live and learn .
The centre bracket can be retrofitted but with the body shell in place it's a bit more of a challenge.
I'm sure the Dax was a similar set up and would have thought the roll over bar fittings would have been
welded ?

Chris.

Agreed, I was under the impression these were structural too.
I don't like the single hoop appearance and was wondering if it was possible to change for 2 singles - using existing holes, creating 2 more in the centre. But of course, chassis has to support this.
I don't own a cobra, but looking at options for cars that are currently available.

Can't speak for the DAX specifically but...
Is the current bar 'structural', that is securely fitted to the chassis?  Some I've seen are just decorative (only attached to GRP or weakly to chassis members) and wouldn't offer any protection, even those which are 'fitted' to the chassis don't seem to offer much as they don't have any fore/aft bracing hence no triangulation.
If your current bar is not structural you could do what you want and won't be worse off protection wise, just a case of cutting new holes and filling in any no longer needed, but if you do want protection it would be a case of working out attaching the new metalwork to the chassis

CobraPaul

Hi all,

Looking at a 1990s Dax cobra tojero, registered around 2000. It currently has the one large, single chrome roll bar across the back of the body, behind the headrests.
Is it possible to remove this and replace with 2 individual hoops, 1 for driver, 1 for passenger?
Change for cosmetic reasons really.
And if so, are 3-legged hoops an option?

I know some kit cars don't cater for modification to the chassis under the body, so wanted to check.

And are parts for a Dax Tojero readily available still?
Thanks!
