in the end , i took the advice and moved the cable to the side of the trans tunnel and fitted a different lever on the side of the tunnel, yet to see if its any better, haven't been out of the garage yet surely but cant be any worse

I have no desire to switch my inboard xj6 system to electric due to fact it passes the mot with no issues .
The system has work from the word go, hill starts no problem or parking on a slope although first gear is selected as a belt & braces .
The hand brake is not as good as my Focus cable system, but that is to be expected.
Hand brake should only need to be about 25% efficient on the older vehicles, not sure exactly on something
like my Focus, it passes with no problems.
One of the mot blokes that I used called his mate over because he couldn't believe that the Jag handbrake was actually doing its job efficiently !
When I first did the re build on the back end every thing was spotless and greased properly to give it half a chance, then connected to an M G handbrake via a decent cable with a correct routing, all this will give the
best chance on these old braking systems .
If going electric you could probably utilise something of the Ford Focus or something like that, they only employ
a re worked wiper motor or there is a kit that you can by for easier application ?
My choice would be to use an electric hand brake system from a Ford .

Be interest to see which way you choose.
Chris.

Mine was the same absolutely useless. Mot time was a joke with the tester (friendly) and me from the side both pulling on the damn thing to get it to pass.

Right a simple fix. Where the cable exits the handbrake mechanism and goes through the bodywork into the wheel arch,  remove it from there and pass it behind the seat to the inboard disc area. The curve on the cable is much better. In doing this hill starts are now no problem and it just takes the mot tester using one hand and not straining for it to pass with flying colours.

This is something im desperate to resolve on my AK also. Sick of having to wink wink at MOT time along with it be pure garbage on a practical side of things when out and about. Hill starts can be intimidating!! Haha

yep, gen 1. inboard brakes.

RobP

Are you talking about the Gen 1 inboard brakes? If so would be interested if anyone has done this.

has anyone devised or fitted an electric handbrake conversion for the jaguar manual handbrake that doesnt require stripping the rear subframe and brakesdown. ie using the original cable in the original position.
