Can't clean mine until it's at least drivable..
My plan is for a wrap too (as opposed to paint job) and I'm certain that tbe cleaning method and process will significantly differ to that of a paint job.

Wheels maintenance:

Looking to shine up my aluminium(?) halibrand wheels, as Ive been using Cobra through the cold months, and will continue to do so (Even tho i look like a modern day Inuit)

So, trying the Aluminium/magnesium Mothers polish, hope it shines real shiny :-)

Will report back

Reporting back: That Mothers Mag and Aluminium polish seems fabulous. You dont have to work it too hard (Applied with a section of sponge) and the shine, i think, is better than when i bought the car last year, when it arrived to me after a full detail.

Most impressed

Load picture, open paint then resize to about 1600 pixels horizontal that should do it

I've just tried to upload a photo of my black GD in gel coat but it says file too large & my computer skills have run out.

As for the Fairy liquid questions. One of it's main ingredients is salt, so not only very corrosive, it's very abrasive. So don't put it anywhere near your car, save it for your plates & dishes.

I'm sure someone on here will put me right but I think someone told me years ago that fairly liquid (other brands are available) has detergents or something in it which make the paint fade or go dull.
I was told it should be avaided ?
Maybe paints have got better and more resistant ?

Maybe a whole new topic but has anyone recently had there car sprayed in the new water based paint ?
Were they given any tips for cleaning ?
Just curious?

Apologies I missed the posts I started.  Bilt Hamber is very good, fairy liquid scares me.  Makes things rust.  Be careful.
I do love cleaning my cars and have tried many different combinations . A foam first and Two buckets two reduce swirls from contaminates is a must.  A heavy metal polish for all your chrome than a bilt hamber to finish.  All good.
Then get dirty and start again..

Re polish for metallic paint, I use Autoglym Super Resin, buffed with a machine which makes my car gleam. I can't figure out how to add a picture on here to show you but I put a picture on the FB Essex cobra group if you want to have a look at the results.

Quote from: JON1D on Feb 16, 2023, 06:00 PMI have tried various cleaning products on metallic and Pearl paint finish.

I do like trying new products.

1. Autoglym Polar blast, Polar Wash, Polar seal( Which I use on my daily drive) Its easy and quick but you have to use a jet wash which I always find over spray into the cockpit being the issue. Great results and long lasting.
2. Turtle wax wash and old green wax bottle hand applied gives great results
3. Turtle wax Ceramic to be tested
4. Turtle Wax Graphene to be tested
5. Mer . Used this for years on my old cobra and always impressed with the easy polish off and even if wet.
6. Alloy Wheels Autosolve aggressive cleaner. Great for chrome but best results on ali with a drill polishing wheel. Mirror finish. I now using Mothers for Ali polishing.
7. Bilt Hamber - Great products and from now on will be using these this year. Club members can have a 10% discount. PM. There wash and wax systems are great value and there wax polish gives amazing results.

I will be looking at Bilt Hamber Surfex HD for a removing body contamination and as a clay bar lube. Also Atom mac for spraying the chassis and ali under panels for protection.

I know someone who has a very polished car and his secrete is Fairy washing up liquid !

I've heard some good things about Bilt Hamber snow foams.  Not had a chance to try any yet though so may pm you about that one  ;) I've been using some auto finesse avalanche stuff on my daily for a while which has been working well.

I have used Poorboy's products in the past, their polishes work well, but the best one thing they do is a glaz called Black Hole, work amazingly well on dark colours.  Gives a really deep wet look finish.

My GD will be staying in gel coat for a fair while so am trying to do a bit of learning on the better ways to polish it up.  I've read that the fillers you tend to get in normal paint polishes don't seem to give the same finish quality on gel. Farecla polishes seem to be highly recommended for gel coats.  I've tried some G3 and G10 so far which have worked quite well.  But always interested to hear about other options?

Cheers
