Thanks for the info, I've got the old bulb out now and have a few bulbs on order. Thanks for the offer on assistance but hopefully I shouldn't need it.

Thanks for the replies, my appologies for not responding sooner. I'm new to the Forum and kept looking to see if I had any replies to my post but it showed nothing. Just done a search and found my post with your answers!! Just pulled the dash out and found the tiniest of bulbs behind the speedo.

I have the same type Smiths gauges that you have in my Cob, they are just the ordinary tungsten filament type and should still be easily available .
My dash is reasonable easy to remove with about ten screws to deal with and personally wouldn't bother
using led's, nothing wrong with then, just my experience over time in real world in both motor trade / industry
didn't need replacing on a regular basis .
Can count on one hand the amount of times that I have replaced warning / cluster bulbs for my own vehicles.
Obviously tungsten filament bulbs are going to be band at some point like Marlborough cigarettes, so I've stashed a few to last me for my next twenty years or so !
House bulbs in led form are great in most forms, they reduce the load on the switches and wirring.
Lots of cases where people were over loading their circuitry without realising it, not good.
Other advantage is that doesn't matter so much when wife or daughter leaves lights on completely unnecessarily!
The push bike led lamps that I have were a god send, they would light up the road perfectly and the batteries
would last at least eight hours before needing a recharge.
My take on this is that some of the new stuff coming through is really good and some is just reinventing the
wheel, probably to enhance businesses profits.
Just to get back on to your bulbs, if you stuck give me a call, I can raid my stash if necessary.

Unless you can get a hand up behind the gauge, you'll need to remove the dashboard.

Then you'll see there is a small grommet with 2 wires coming out- pull this off, may need a slight twist -this is where you insert a replacement bulb. Alternatively, you can add LED direct replacement, which is what I did when i rebuilt my dash. These can be bought with an authentic amber tint as per a filament bulb, so no one will ever know...and they are also a bit brighter.

Can't speak specifically for the Smiths but mine just has a bulb which plugs into the rear, simple semi turn to unscrew, new bulb and it's good.  Hope yours is similar.

Hi,

I have a Smiths Cobra Authentic 100mm Speedometer installed in my AK 427. I recently drove it in the dark and noticed the light around the speedometer isn't working. I'm not too sure how to fix this issue, has anyone any ideas?
