Cooper Tyres (Avon factory) closes down for good

Avon tyres back in business company renamed as NOVA TYRES which is Avon  backwards so I believe there is good stock as the situation stands now and a company will be manufacturing with the original tooling once they get up and running

The UV kills the tyres. I had some stored in a loft and never cracked after 10 years ! They did harden but where like new ! I have had tyres crack after 2 1/2 years on my daily runner. Both Michelin Pilot sports and Goodyears !

I remember a friend of mine many years ago stocked up on loads of Avon knobbly cycle speedway tyres,
Avon sold the mould I think to an Indian tyre company but we never saw this design again .
The problem he had with the storred tyres was they hardened as they aged, therefore not that good with grip,
they did look good though !
Hopefully there may be a better way of storing the old Avons so they can still be used as intended ?

You can keep them in the dark (stop UV) and wrap them in cling-filmy type of stuff but they'll still age eventually unfortunately.

Not moving, ending production of those tyres. Big news in GT40 World! The old stock is selling well! I know people  buying sets for spares/future use

The CRs are great tyres with a period tread pattern, be surprised if they stopped production entirely - probably just another Brexit benefit, so production moved elsewhere.

On the other hand, Galaxies are also excellent V-rated tyres...albeit with a modern tread.

I assume this means that they'll all be made overseas now (they have factories in Serbia, according to Google) - if not, well, there'll be no more Avon CR6ZZs for folks to run for those who have 15" wheels.
