IVA Alarms & Imobilisers

Thanks guys - as usual, really useful support &  much appreciated.

I have a steering lock.

My Thatcham immobiliser has a flashing red port where you touch the transponder, so I can't easily ignore it.

But.... I can and have taken the fuse out of the alarm and its all concealed so no-one will know its there.

Only alarms required certification. Simply disconnect the siren and it is then just an immobiliser and thus no certification required, just demonstrated that it works. Then once you have passed the IVA you can reconnect the siren if required.

Unless rules changed in last couple of years, then Thatcham alarms are going to need an installation certificate, but immobilisers just need the certificate that comes in the box - I fitted the Toad one myself cost about £50. Put the sticker that it came with on the screen for IVA (its still there), No issues.

Good question - do you still have a steering lock? If so then you could simply not mention the Thatcham immobiliser and still pass, but if you don't have a steering lock then it's a little muddier.

Hi Guys, I'm just doing a month's shakedown on my Dax before submitting for IVA. I've read the application notes and it states for alarms & immobilisers you must submit a certificate (Thatcham or other approved) from an approved installer. I installed Thatcham certified hardware myself. So do I disconnect and say none, or leave it and just submit my hardware Thatcham certificates?

Anyone had any kickbacks as a result of this?
