Hi Paul,

Unless you're racing it or doing extensive track days it's pretty unlikely that you actually need an oil cooler at all let alone a cooler with a fan fitted.

Only way to tell is to fit an oil temp gauge (preferably in the sump). You can run oil up to 120C or a little higher continuously without any issue and it has to run over 100C to burn off combustion vapours.

Your probably referring to what's known as a Turkey Pan.
I had one on my 445 Big Block.
How come you radiator isn't pressurised, that's not going to help your temperatures at all.

Hi Kev,
Thanks for the welcome and replying, I was a member for many years a while back, but moved and tan out of time with it all.
Yes it has a scoop, but I feel there's so much heat within the engine compartment, the air would be mixed and still be hot?
I have seen pictures of various cars with the filter within a sort of dish which would create an intake zone for the scoop, but I haven't seen a kit if there is one?
I'm going to post a few other questions soon about radiator replacement, if the original Rover sdi was enough and whether my oil cooler rad needs a fan?

I'm not racing it, but I do like a good blatt, not like to France and back etc!
I have found the car keeps to normal with a leaky non pressurized rad and oil cooler at the front.

Thanks Paul

Hi Paul and welcome aboard.
Does your car have a bonnet scoop?

Hi,
I am currently getting my engine and gear box problems sorted and amoungst needing a new rad and fan set, the thought can up of a installing a cold air intake, due to the high heat source and position of the standard air filter, Chevy 350 .
The car goes much better on a cold day as opposed to a hot one.

Has any one else fitted such a thing and if so where are the intakes, I would imagine down either side of the radiator if there's any room, or possibly make a system to fit a standard shallow round filter, and seal it via a flexible seal to the bonnet scoop?

Any thought woould be appreciated.
Thanks Paul
