Title: Maintanance & Servicing (S r V8)
Post by: Chris on Aug 20, 2022, 03:20 PM
With respect to servicing & maintainance, I think our type of cars are fairly straight forward,
you normally have to be able to use a grease gun in addition to the normal everyday vehicles .
Therefore in my opinion that's the easy bit of our hobby .
My worst issues are actually getting the car of the floor, on to stands and underneath,
never used to be an issue but hey that's just it !
I know that investing in some sort of lift would help, which is what I've been looking at .
There are some good lifts for home, some of the best and easiest type were the portable
scissor type that I used out in fatherland whilst working for Henry .
Main issue for me is that my driveway slopes toward my garage door and the height inside
is reasonable although not ideal.
My guess is that I will continue with my current measure until my options run out.
Chris.

I have a hydraulic two poster, that's half height. Due to restricted ceiling height.
I love it.
Great for most jobs, leaves full access to bottom of the engine, gearbox, axle etc.
Mine doesn't have a base plate across either, so you can roll the car between the posts without obstruction.

That's the one I have.

Looks like a good bit of kit and looks ideal .
I know that I have a bit of height restriction but I am blessed with a good double width garage on
the plus side .
The other option is status quo and stop the age thing !

Will check the cost and availability on this because, I don't think the status quo thing is going to happen !
Thanks for forwarding the product info,
Chris.

When I bought mine it was £190 postage.
Obviously it's big and heavy.

Doesn't look like it's on the E4G website anymore which is a shame - looks like a brilliant option for folks like us with limited ceiling height!

Like the way he shows the 2 different length arms then puts the Porsche on the wrong way round LOL. (short arms should be to engine end so the vehicle COG is closest to the lift pillars obviously).

Couldn't see any mention of required concrete floor thickness ?

I'd say a minimum of 4" of concrete would be required.
My Boxster goes on lovely, same as the Cobra.

I reached out to E4G - they say they don't have any and don't think they'll be getting any more in, and suggested to call for other low ceiling options (which I'm betting would be scissor lifts). Bit of a shame!

I think you'll find others out there but most of them have a bottom bar or top bar.

you might want to check out cjautosheywood.co.uk. I bought one of their tilting scissor lifts. Can't remember what I paid because I bought a couple of other things too. It was £400 and something. I have an e type sitting on it about 2ft off the floor, the tilt mechanism locks but I also use axle stands as insurance. I'm not sure about the maximum lift. I use an impact driver to raise and lower it. They have a showroom so you can play with it before you buy.

Well Im still looking for a car lift, no decent deals out there at present.

Equipment4garages.  E4G A227CP Compact Pro, nil stock and no longer on their web site.
Which is a real shame.

The Maxjax MK6 can only be purchased from the EU, Due to Brexit.  you then get
DAP incoterm, costs €200 and they will only supply to a business user.
DAP means = Delivered at place.
We take care for costs of transport and export related costs, buyer pays local VAT and import related costs.
Just received their quote  Wow a bit pricey. but they do have stock
MaxJax M6K €2.650,00
DAP Shipping €200
Import Export firm cost €86
Total €2.936,00   =  £2,547.16

This would be spot on if it was in stock  https://cjautosheywood.co.uk/
2 Post Movable Maxi Lift CL07 £2,398.80 inc VAT)

Twin Busch
Short 2 post lift, but does have the bottom cross bar.
basic line lift 4.2t  £2,098

Automotech
Short post, Narrow lift 3.t  £1,992
but again has the bottom cross bar

liftech-garage-equipment  Ebay
NARROW WIDTH SHORT 2 POST LIFT CAR VEHICLE LIFT/RAMP 4000KG 4TON TONNE TWO POST
IDEAL FOR LOW CEILINGS / NARROW WIDTH £1,650 plus delivery, Which is around £200

Then you get the Quickjacks, which are fine, but only lift to around 20" and the new TL version goes to 24"

Almost the same lift are the Kwicklift  these are the cheapest I have come across around £1,155 plus £95 delivery
Different models to chose from with both.

Scissor lifts
Not really any good for me,  as you do not get clear access under the car.
Great for body shops etc

Title: Low height, no bar across the floor, car lift
Post by: Mike Hamblin on Feb 20, 2023, 09:09 PM
Well I'm still looking for a low height car lift, 2 post type with no bar across the floor.

Latest information I have just received.

MaxJax Europe will not supply to the UK, this is what they have to say.
It is currently the case that we do not ship to the UK because there is too much paperwork involved due to the Brexit. sorry for the inconvenience.

So that option is no longer available to any of us. Plus the cost $2,650.00.

CJ Autos, nothing in stock and no idea if and when it might.

But some good news. info@equipment4garages.com
E4G KL3500AC Portable Kwik Lift 3.5 Ton AC220V
The latest (CE) UKCA approval is complete and it is going into production.
We should have them back in stock April/May time.

No full price as yet for the new version.

Will keep you posted as soon as they are available.

Title: short height 2 post car lift
Post by: Mike Hamblin on Nov 10, 2023, 03:03 PM
Well my new short height 2 post car lift has arrived.
It took a bit of sorting to get it out of its shipping crate on my own, but with the aid of my old trolly jack I managed it.  All parts checked, and pre assembled.
Next step is bolt it to floor. This will have to wait for a few days, as Im off the classic car show at the NEC
Here are a few photos for now. More to follow when I install it.

Very nice Mike! Much want..

I had the same experience when my scissor lift arrived and I couldn't get the thing off the pallet which was taking up most of the driveway at the time  ;D

Quick update,  I finally managed to get a few days spare to spend in the garage and not freeze my N--- off, I have now fully installed my short height 2 post lift. I did use additional chemical anchor set resin, as belt and braces, even though I had plenty of thickness in the concrete floor.

I ran the hydraulic hoses up and over the garage roof trusses, so out out of the way leaving the floor totally clear.

Wow what a difference this is going to make for servicing and cleaning, or just about anything that needs my cob up in the air.

I have also attached a link to the you tube video on this as its the newer version.

I have a similar lift, I sometimes think it is the best and the worst tool I've ever bought.

Really useful, not only for lifting the whole car up for servicing but also for lifting the body off the cobra.
Why is it the worst?  Well because you can do things you do do things so I've taken on jobs which I would otherwise not have done!
