Title: cabin storage
Post by: ddare@sky.com on Feb 11, 2025, 07:32 PM
Hi all. Has anyone had any success putting a cover or door on the glove box hole in the dashboard? Need to tidy it up and make it a useful space. Also, has anyone found a door pocket solution - my door cards don't have door pockets and so I have absolutely no place to put anything inside the cabin. Third world problem I know but would like to do something to tidy up.

Original cars had a door on the glove box. A decent trimmer can sort you out, but will require dashboard removal.

You can also get door pockets made.

Alternatively, there is this:

or you can add a cargo net behind the seats like this:

Making a door for the glove box on my AK is one of the jobs i hope to get done some time this year. Once i have made it, I'm going to trim it with the same colour material the dash and seats are in . Tricky bit would be figuring out what type of hinges to use, as the bottom edge of the glove box hole is curved ,which could  cause the door to foul as it opens. I was going to see if a "cranked " hinge would work.

If i get it done, i will send an article in to the ST mag.

A lot of Cobras don't have much room between the back of the seat and rear bulkhead but the net could work quite nicely on the door card. Quick, easy, cheap solution.

At the other end of the spectrum here is mine but not everyone has access to an ex-Aston Martin trimmer. I lucked out.

Original cars used a piano hinge,  and the trick was to arrange t so that it was not seen externally. However, I have seen cars with a perfectly acceptable look with 2 smaller hinges along the bottom edge. If the AK moulding is curved that does present a problem, might be solveable with some packing, but lot of experimentation needed I suspect.
