Title: Oil cooler thermostat - sandwich plate or remote
Post by: Austin21 on Aug 09, 2024, 06:34 PM
Good afternoon all,

I'm planning on fitting an oil cooler as will be doing track days with the car but will be fitting a thermostat in there to make sure it's not running too cold when it's not getting pushed.

the questions is is there any benefit to running a sandwhich plate type vs a remote type?

my current thoughts are that a sandwhich plate would be better as fewer breaks in the lines for potential leak points.

for reference I'm planning on a 13 row Mocal/Setrab/PWR cooler with dash 10 braided lines and fittings.

Cheers
Greg

Sandwhich plate gives you less connectors and no joint in the pipes. Make sure you get the correct size to fit.
Also less connectors with a remote oil filter and looks cleaner.

I went with Setrab as you can fit any size adapter required and replace it if damaged. The Mocal are fixed connectors and can develop hair line cracks.

Thank you Jon, that's confirmed what was thinking re the sandwich plate.
And very good info on the setrab coolers I hadn't spotted that as yet 👍🏻

Thanks
