Title: VW Indicator Switch as per Original Cobra
Post by: Kev Davies UKCC Membership on Mar 06, 2024, 10:23 AM
Hi All,
I have a VW indicator stalk as per an original Cobra set up.
It's on my Hawk 289.
Unfortunately it's an aftermarket one, which is very unreliable (in fact I think this is the second one)

Can anyone point me in the direction of a more reliable one?
Obviously it's going to cost.

Thanks all.

Following with interest even though I don't have an answer for you!

I've had two, one from Machine7 (£45ish) and one from Heritage Parts Center (£80ish).. now, unfortunately, what I can remember is:

One was inop. on delivery and the inside was covered in green verdigris. I accidentally killed it trying to fix it.
The other is extremely sensitive when it comes to self cancelling and half the time refuses to latch on.

What I can't remember is which one is which!

Maybe the ones from www.coolairvw.co.uk are better? They are 2-3x the price, though, so it's quite a gamble!

Have had both. The repro one (in black) burned out just with pre-IVA testing.
Coughed up for the genuine VW Karma article (dark grey) from VH Heritage. Been fine since.

Self canceling- whats that?

I found the VW ( Karmann Ghia) stalks very stiff to operate but some lithium grease free them up and make a total difference. Also the amp rating should only switch a relay and I have LED relay fitted as all my indictors lamps are LED. Found it reliable so far.

Just ordered one from Just Kampers for £185.
They assure it's not made in  China and good quality.
We'll see.  8)
