Title: Paint Your Wagon!
Post by: KevinW on Oct 11, 2023, 01:20 PM
Some of you may remember that I had a thread on the old forum about the hardtop I cut into 4 pieces, glassed back together to fit a 427-shaped body, filled, sanded and painted at home.

That was the learning piece..... with the 2nd kid now at University, and paint shop prices at £5k-10k, there was no way my car was every going to get professionally painted. So, having done the hardtop (which will actually get another coat of paint next year due to my excessive flatting and buffing...that's another story), I decided it was time to make a start on the body.

The plan:

Step 1: Apply filler to level the rear of the body and sort out all the little nicks and dongs I have inflicted on it with the hardtop project.

Apply spray on poly filler and urethane filler (same recipe as for the hardtop), and leave in Carcoon till March next year - my garage is too damp to make progress once the temps really start to drop.

Step 2: Repeat the above from back of doors to nose of car. Then paint. Simples, huh?

In actuality: I am already 3 weeks behind schedule, and it'll get longer.

Anyway, starting this thread with occasional updates as I make progress. Have also shot some video, which at some point I'll edit and pop onto Youtube.
