Title: Standard classic style seats Head rest options
Post by: Mike Hamblin on Jun 07, 2023, 03:54 PM
Ok lets see what options are on the table for head rest.

Make your own from something from a scrap yard and trim to match your seats.

Buy some pre made and adapt to current seats

Go bespoke to someone like Inatrim

I don't fancy head rest that bolt to my roll bars, to far back.
I would like something that fixes to the back of my original seats, but needs to be easily removable.

What's are all the options.

I have standard AK seats.

There are bolts cut short in the back of the seats.
But no holes in the top.
Ideally it would be nice to use existing bolt pattern, but I think they were used for the IVA then cut off.

When you say

If you don't have the fixing holes covered in the top of the seat or any at the back you will need the tubes installing into the frame if they are steel frames ? Or are they fibre glass. I just bought a new pair of seats and had the option of head rests.

I have added a couple of photos which should help.
Just looking for ideas and what others have used or fitted.

Ak seats have studs from the back allowing you to fit removable headrests if required.

Headrests are a mandatory IVA requirement, and the AK IVA units simply slide down onto the studs out the rear squab and secure with nylock or wingnuts. This allows you to loosen them and adjust the hight easily or remove completely if desired leaving no visible fixings.

If your seats don't have the studs you should be able to retro fit them, and the headrest then fit like a divan bed headboard as such.

Thanks Will speak to AK and see what they have, as I have the studs sticking out the back.

I have checked with AK and they do not stock or supply nice quality headrest, they just have an old pair they use for IVA.

I happen to see on Europa spares they have head rest and fittings, has anyone tried them or used them, unfortunate no photos on there web page. I will ask them if they have photos.
