Title: Exhaust Heat Shields - worth it?
Post by: Hammy on Jan 05, 2023, 11:06 PM
Hi all,

Question, having read a number of reports of cobra drivers getting a snake bite from the exhaust, I was curious as to whether the heat shields actually work and whether they were worth installing?

Very much worth fitting! Try touching (or better still don't) the headers as they exit the body side before the pipe enters the heat shield area - now that's hot!
Yes there's lots of reports of cobra exhaust burns but without heat shields they would likely require a visit to A&E!

Heat shields are well worth the cost to save the pain and scar from a snake bite.
I have been bitten serval times.

If I never fitted any I'm sure the wife would have a snake bite by now, and would be refusing to go out in the car until I did fit some.  ( Could be a good reason to not fit any as well )

Several different suppliers around,  I got mine from cheery bomb.  Several different arrangements, with just vent holes or with Cobra cut out etc. JKsports cars also has them, just check the size you need first, the Diameter of exhaust fitted.

Have had shields on my SRv8, that's for over twenty five years now and would not recommend not
having them due to how we enter and exit our Cobs.
If your a hundred percent sure that you are not going to touch the side pipes with your hands or leg
then don't worry .
I have had the Cobra burn from the 4 in to 1 collectors due to my own stupidity when checking things
under the bonnet after a run out with my shorts on, nothing life threatening but will remind you for a
couple of days !
This is better known as "Cobra Leg".
Chris.
