Title: Rear fog and reversing lights
Post by: MartBlak on Nov 29, 2022, 01:41 PM
It is my understanding that, while being required for IVA, it is only the fog light that is needed from then on?
In any case, I already have wiring for both so am looking to ideally install lights on brackets either side of my GD Mk3 underslung exhaust. I previously had the lights fitted to a nudge bar but would like to simplify the rear of the car by removing this so need to find the best way of attaching them.
I got Car Builder Solutions' rear fog and reversing lights on brackets but they were too big so I have returned them. They also have a stainless set that look as though they would work but these cost £42 each so I am hoping someone can recommend something else......I do want a simple bolt through the body solution rather having to cut a hole in the fibreglass.
Any suggestions please.
Thanks
Martin

GD themselves do some lovely stainless stand off brackets for the lucas 691 units, or similar.

They are well made bits with a radius cut to match the profile of the rear valance. 100% the best option in my opinion.

Rumours have it that my Ak has them!!  ;D  ;)

And just for the record, I don't support sunderland, and Tony is "not" funny!!

I bought the cheapest fog/reverse light tat I could find.

For the test I actually drilled a 5mm hole in the body and mounted them direct on a self tapper.
For the MOT I used an old Z-bracket from my seat belt kit, bracket mounted horizontally on the quicklifts sticking out to the side, but same would apply to nudge bar/over-riders.

The GD stand off's are lovely. I simply changed the fog light to a clear lenses and led red bulb for legality.

These keep the back end a tad cleaner and smoother looking.

I have contacted GD but have not heard back yet.

Do you have the diameter of the light the standoffs take? Also, how deep are the standoffs i.e. how proud do they sit from the bodywork?

Thanks

Did you tell them it was for your GD? Possibly give them your chassis number... failing that i will get some better pictures of mine with dimensions if needed.

Give GD a call and see what response you get first.

Thanks Tommy,
GD know me well after mending my chassis and body! Meena is always snowed under and it does take quite some time to get a response. If you could provide some dimensions that would be fantastic.

The standoffs from GD have arrived and are things of beauty!......OK I am easily pleased! Now I have to work out how to fit them.
FYI. They are designed for use with Lucas L691 lights.

They are good, get some threaded extensions to mount the lights to the stand off's and then either bolt through or use threaded bar and nuts etc.
