It's been a few years since I built my velocopede and I have set myself the task of replacing the differential this winter. I have a replacement but it comes with no fulcrum carriers so I have bought a pair. The question is that these fulcrum carriers need to be shimmed. Are these shimmed to the Jaguar XJ6 manual or the Dax manual? I can't find any info about these in the Dax manual. What has anyone else done? Mine is the pre de-Dion chassis.
Cheers.
If it is as I suspect, the same as my Southern Roadcraft with xj6 rear end, you will need shims on the
driveshafts and the carriers .
The shims for the the drive shafts were done by myself a long time ago and Chang at Thunder Road
Cars did the shimming for the carries when the tracking was set .
Not much shiming in that area, just a small amount, there is not much info available where this is
concerned and will have a look in my S R build up manual just to double check .
Regards ,
Chris.
I doubt you'll be able to accurately shim it until it's in the chassis so you can check the rear toe etc.
I've spoke to quite a few folks over the years that don't have any shims in there at all.
They'll be very lucky if the rear toe is correct with the expected variations in a welded chassis.

You have a point there.
In the middle of 'shopping' for the required shims but now it's a case of where do I stop? So far on my shopping list are complete new roller bearing set, spacers, fulcrum shafts, shims, spacers and bolts! Going to be an expensive winter.
