Title: DAX ENGINE BAY/SEATS
Post by: motty on Nov 19, 2025, 07:41 PM
Hi all - well picked up the project and already got some questions. the first is can anyone post engine bay picks as I want to check out where people mount header tanks etc. I also have two parallel box tube bars on mine close to the headers and don't know if they are original or add ons. Also I have seats but they look a bit narrow. any recommendations of something wider for the fuller arsed blokes lol - i will add some pictures when i get to the workshop next thanks M

My photography skills need some work, clearly.. but there's nothing really 'above' the chassis rails once you get to the engine bay on a standard or DeDion (mine is the DeDion) chassis:

No header tank pics on mine as the header tank is attached to the engine.. which apparently I don't have a good "overall" photo of:

But you get the idea:

There's absolutely sod all room for the headers, even so!

Arron,

I think when you go FE big block or Cleveland the headers are close on both Dax (underslung) or even Crendon with side pipes which might have a little more room. With Windsors  or Chevys SB the width, being less you have lots more room to get at the studs or bolts. I did a gasket header change in the summer on the Dax and removed the wire locks and all of them came out without issues. I have had them out before about 7-8 years ago as the exhaust gaskets burn out and crack on the underside but I made my own up this time, so hope they will last.

Wow! That chassis looks awful spindly, I've have structural integrity issues with that.
Front suspenstion setup looks trick though, I'd happily look at more photo's of that.
