Title: Crankcase vent system
Post by: Chris on May 21, 2025, 03:48 PM
I will start of with, I'm sure this subject has already been done to death with regards to different variations of
ways to vent you crankcase .
At the present time my system for an RV 8 is using a catch tank with a restricted vacuum "Teed" at the manifold side of a Holley 390, therefore giving enough vacuum to keep oil leaks to a minimum and crankcase gases being
pulled through the inlet manifold.
What I am trying to establish is this much the same as the other older v 8 that are used ?
The emississions levels in my case are just visual smoke ( year 74 ) ,
Is this the best way or could I do better for the engine without too much oil loss or smell from crankcase gasses ?
Cheers for any feed back,

Chris.

I'm interested here too, have a chevy 350, with a pcv onside feeding to the carb (holley 670 street avenger) vac port and breather on the other side.

No catch can but have wondered/thought about it. For ref I'm also on non metered emissions.

Cheers

Hi

I have a RV 8 4.6l in my AK and I eventually found this dual flow adjustable PCV valve from M/E Wagner https://mewagner.com/?p=444.

It sorted out my issues and I do not have any oil leaks. I don't have a catch can and the PCV valve feeds into the Holley Sniper EFI throttle body on the vac port, and a breather on the other side.

Hope this helps.

To date I have removed catch can and using the vac port at the base of the carb, the lhs rocker cover is still
using the customary filter with the tiny restrictor, to me this seems too small but that's how it's meant to be .
The rhs rocker cover has the flame trap but I have never used a valve due to the fact that any backfire would
be contained in the trap .
My take on this, would a valve in circuit reduce backfiring ?
And thanks for posting the link, it will be food for thought.
