Hi All,
after much too long I'm finally back on the Sebring build getting ready for IVA.
I've only driven it very briefly but I have a distinct lack of self centering which I'm sure is an issue for IVA.
I have Gerry's uprated setup.
Any suggestions where to start looking, I think I already have maximum castor adjustment but I will obviously revisit that.
"Like" because you're back on it, not because you've got a problem ;D
I would think it is most likely to be something geo related, so insufficient castor, excessive toe (in or out), and least likely camber? Or a bind in the steering somewhere but I assume you'd feel that as the driver.
No PAS, I presume?
Maybe worth posting on th T289R forum.
Or mailing Andy Mulhearn direct.
Pete Combes would def have known, but sadly no longer with us.
Could be just some minor adjustment with toe-in. To much toe-out can give feeling of dead spot in the centre. If your spot on with Gerry's figures you should not be off. Its obviously not a worn component if all new but new can have play on U/J worth a check.
I would also try adjust your tyre pressures down 2psi at a time and see how it feels.
Chang Lim at Thunder Road cars carried out my set up for my Southern Roadcraft a good few years ago now,
I am still more than happy with how he set it, no bump steer or excessive tyre ware etc .
As this was pre I v a am not sure it would comply ?
I have the set up figures that I used to get things going at the time before Chang did his final tweaks,
If you want these figures, just let my know I will be happy to dig them out .
Thanks all,
it's the usual pre IVA problem can't drive it anywhere to get it properly set up and can't justify transport costs.
#KevW I have posted on the 289 Register too thanks.
I'll see if I locate a set of old school tracking sticks locally.
Or maybe a piece of string. LOL!
Hi Kev, Wasn't obvious to me when I just looked? Is it buried under another post?
Stuart Clarke was the other person who has a lot of Hawk knowledge. Very nice guy.

Just to close this post off.
I found that the issue was actually that the rack (which I rebuilt) was just a little tight on the pinion preload.
One more thin shim under the cover and the jobs a good'un!
Passed IVA no worries on the steering and it self centres fine now.
Just waiting for an IVA re-test now, just had a couple of very minor issues (now sorted).
